Introduction

You will be placed in a small group with other researchers that will be responsible for finding specific information, building a display, and presenting to the Orient Museums Board of Directors. Please use the links provided to find your answers.
The Process

Create a multitier timeline that includes information about the
Qin, Han, and Shang dynasties. Each team member must research one of the
dynasties and create that specific section of the timeline. You must include
facts about achievements and characteristics of each dynasty on the timeline.
Plan carefully!! Include illustrations and prepare to present. Type up 5
questions that you will answer for your audience during the presentation. |

PAPER MAKING TS’AI
LUN is credited for creating paper, as we know it. Write a letter from Ts’ai Lun to the Emperor Han explaining your
invention and how it can help his kingdom. Be sure to explain who you are and
how you came to invent this. |
THE SEISMOGRAPH
Write a
paragraph (at least 7 sentences) that explains what a seismograph is and its
purpose. Include how this ancient invention worked. In addition, draw
a picture of the first Chinese seismograph (hint – it has frogs in it).

MAGNETIC COMPASSWrite a
newspaper article (at least 7 sentences) that explains what a magnetic
compass is and its purpose. Include how this ancient invention worked. In
addition, draw a picture of the first Chinese magnetic compass. |
SILK PRODUCTION
For hundreds
of years the Chinese kept the methods of silk production secret from the rest
of the world. Present the basic steps (6-7) in silk production by using
illustrations with explanations attached. Explain why it was so valuable to
them. |

The Han made significant improvements in Chinese
government. Find answers to the
following questions. Create a skit that includes all of the information
you’ve found. Props would be helpful. You MUST also include a
typed script that involves all members of your group. (1)What were some of the improvements the Han made to their
government? (2) Who was part of the government? (3) What did they call their government? (4) What was their army like? (5) How were kites used in warfare? WHOLE GROUP Type up 5 questions that you will answer for your audience

The Great Wall was
built during 3 different dynasties (Shang, Qin, Han). Three group members
need to research the Great Wall during one of the periods. The other member
will be in charge of researching what the Great Wall is like today. As a
group, create a map of China showing the location of the Great Wall. It needs to include
important facts and descriptions relating to the building of the wall during
the individual dynasties. You can make flaps with this information underneath
around the map. Type up 5 questions
that you will answer for your audience during the presentation. |

Each team member
should research what daily life was like during the Han Dynasty. You will
create a poster that includes explanations and drawings that depict the
lifestyle in your dynasty. You should include information on food, nobility,
arts, jobs, schooling and any other topics you find interesting during your
research. Type up 5 questions
that you will answer for your audience during the presentation. |

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU DID IT!!
You completed the research, and created a fantastic display. Now
you just have to share your display with the Orient Museum Board of Directors.
Prepare for your presentation. Give your 5 typed questions to Mrs. Patrick (the
Curator of the Museum). Make sure you have eye contact with the Board members
and speak loudly and clearly!
