    What is National Honor Society?

    The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. As more than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have defined membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

     

    What are the requirements to apply for the 2023-2024 school year?

    • You must be at least a Junior.
    • You must have a 3.5 unweighted cumulative GPA, as of May 25, 2023. 
    • You must have 5 teacher/coach recommendations that reflect their opinion of your character and leadership. 
    • You must complete the Leadership Modules on the NHS Applicants Schoology page. 
    • You must have completed 20 Service Hours (since freshman year).
       - Please use the TWHS National Honor Society Service Log Template to track your service hours as you complete them. 

    Aspiring NHS Members:

    Juniors and seniors who have a 3.5 unweighted cumulative GPA are awarded the opportunity to apply. All eligible students will receive an invitation and informational letter via school email and US mail in September. To complete the application process, students will need to join the NHS Application Schoology page. Information to join the Schoology page will be provided in the invitation letter sent in September. 

     

    Applications will be accepted until December 31, 2023. This deadline cannot be extended, so please plan accordingly. Below details the three-part application process:

    1. Part One: Google Form Application 

    Applicants must first complete a basic application.  The Google Form Application link will be posted on the NHS Application Schoology page in September. 

    2. Part Two: Leadership Development Modules

    The Modules will explore the four pillars of National Honor Society - Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Students will engage in content for each pillar and complete a written reflection for each. These modules will be accessed and completed on the NHS Application Schoology page, available in September. 

    3. Part Three: Google Sheet Service Hour Log 

    Applicants must log their 20 service hours, completed since freshman year, on the TWHS NHS Service Hour Log Template. Once completed, applicants must share the Google Sheet with Mrs. Tecklenburg, mtecklenburg@wscloud.orgThe Google Sheet link will be posted on the NHS Application Schoology page in September. 

    4. Part Four: Teacher/Coach Recommendations 

    Applicants must provide 5 teacher/coach recommendations to fulfill the leadership and character requirements. To be selected as an inductee into the NHS, these teachers must be willing to attest to your optimism, initiative, positive influence on others, responsibility, and respect. Applicants are responsible for sending the Recommendation Link to 5 teachers/coaches to complete on their behalf. The Recommendation Link will be posted on the NHS Application Schoology page in September. 

    Current NHS Members (Inducted in March 2023):

    During your senior year, you are required to complete an additional 20 service hours to maintain your status as a NHS member and earn your cords for graduation. These 20 service hours must be new hours completed since your induction in March 2023 through March 2024.

     

    Please log your hours on the TWHS NHS Service Hours Log.

     

    Once your 20 new hours are completed, please share your Service Hours Log Google Sheet with Mrs. Tecklenburg (mtecklenburg@wscloud.orgby February 29, 2024 at 3:20 pm.
