Following is a list of LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS available to graduating seniors at Thomas Worthington High School to help them further their education or career.
Students are strongly encouraged to review all scholarship criteria, and apply for any available scholarships for which they are eligible.
SENIOR RECOGNITION PROGRAM
All seniors who are awarded a local scholarship will be invited to and expected to attend the Local Scholarship Ceremony being held on Friday, May 19 at 8 AM in the TW Auditorium. Families are encouraged to attend. A celebratory breakfast will be held afterwards in the Library.
ALICE BOCTOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is in honor and memory of Alice Boctor, an amazing science teacher and an incredible person. For those blessed to have known her, she taught them through her every word, action, and story that the greatest strength in life is the strength of joyfulness through hardship. This $1300 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who shows good character and is a positive influence on others. Applicants should have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and pursuing a career in science or science education.
CAPTAIN DAVID M. SPELLACY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
APPLICATION DISTRIBUTED BY WRESTLING COACH
The David M. Spellacy Memorial Scholarship was established in February, 1995, by the Thomas Worthington Wrestling Parents’ Club. Capt. David M Spellacy, a 1980 graduate of Worthington High School, was a good wrestler and a great teammate. After graduation, Dave was a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps. During Captain Spellacy’s service in Desert Storm, his plane was shot down, and he was killed in action. We have established this $500 scholarship to honor this American hero. Eligibility: You must be a Thomas Worthington High School graduating senior and a wrestler.
CARDINAL THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP
$1,000 will be awarded to one student who has made a significant contribution to the theatre program, is an active member of the Thespian Society of Thomas Worthington, and hopes to pursue the performing arts in the future.
CINDY EVANS CRAIG SCHOLARSHIP

In matching with Cindy's character, candidates for this scholarship should exemplify a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a passion for helping others. One scholarship of $1500 will be awarded to a deserving senior who is nominated by a TWHS staff member and will be pursuing post-secondary education at a college, university, or junior college. Preference will be given to candidates who are the first family member to attend college. Financial need will strongly be weighed in the decision of the award winner. If you have been nominated, you will be notified via email that you are eligible to apply.
COLLEGE START SCHOLARSHIP
APPLY HERE – Application Due March 15, 2023
A $5000 scholarship to provide a higher education launching pad for a student from the Worthington School District. The donor desires that when awarding this scholarship, special consideration be given to students who have demonstrated knowledge or experience with cultures outside of the United States, and have experience serving as caregivers within their families or communities. Minimum high school GPA of 2.8 required. This scholarship will cover the cost of one year’s tuition and books, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Students must have completed a CSCC application before applying to this scholarship.
COLONIAL HILLS CIVIC ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

An award will be given to a graduating senior from one of the area high schools who resides in the Colonial Hills neighborhood. The award is for advanced education and is based upon service to the
neighborhood (in a variety of ways), a short essay and one letter of recommendation. The CHCA expects to be awarding 2-3 scholarships between $500 and $3,000, depending on volume of applications and

COLONIAL HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP
The Colonial Hills Elementary School Scholarship Fund is providing up to six, $3100 scholarships for deserving students who have attended Colonial Hills Elementary School, and who are pursuing post-secondary education at a college, university or junior college. Selection criteria include: academic potential, character, and financial need.
COOPER FAMILY WORTHINGWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
Two $1000 scholarships (non-renewable) will be awarded to former 6th, 7th, or 8th grade students at Worthingway Middle School who are pursuing a post-secondary education at a college, university, junior college, or trade school. Student(s) must have attended Worthingway Middle School full time for a minimum of two (2) years and be a graduating senior in Worthington City Schools (Thomas Worthington, Worthington Kilbourne, Linworth Alternative, and/or Worthington Academy). The judging panel will consist of the current Worthingway principal, assistant principal, school counselor, and a current member of the Cooper Family Foundation Board.
DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION SCHOLARSHIP
One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who plans to pursue a post-secondary education at a 2 or 4 year college. The student must attend a Worthington City School (Thomas Worthington, Worthington Kilbourne, Linworth Alternative, and/or Worthington Academy) and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students must submit a completed application form along with their transcript, resume, one letter of recommendation, and a 500-1,000 word essay on the topic “What Patriotism Means to Me.”
DAVID B. ELDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
In memory of David B. Elder, former Worthington City Manager of 26 years. Mr. Elder was a community visionary, dedicated public servant, and leader who cared for the well-being of Worthington Schools and the residents of Worthington. This $1000 scholarship is to support high school students pursuing a career in education. Particular attention will be given to those with financial need, active service to his/her community, and strong moral character.
#DREWSTRONG ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP
The #DrewStrong Athletic Scholarship was established in memory of Worthington Kilbourne High School graduate Drew George (2016) who was diagnosed his sophomore year with acute myeloid leukemia at the age of 15 and passed away in 2019. He was a 3 sport athlete at WKHS playing soccer, basketball, and baseball. The #DrewStrong Athletic Scholarship provides a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior with a GPA of at least 3.25. Applicants must have lettered in at least one varsity sport, must submit 2 letters of recommendation, write a personal statement, and plan on attending a secondary public or private institution.
DUBLIN-WORTHINGTON & WORTHINGTON AM ROTARY CLUBS SCHOLARSHIP
This two year scholarship will be awarded to a senior who is starting at Columbus State Community College, and will cover the cost of tuition and books up to $5,000 each academic year. The award will be based on academic achievement, school activities, community service, financial need and a personal interview. In addition to completing an application, each applicant should become familiar with Rotary and will be asked to write an essay on how they exemplify the rotary motto of “Service Above Self” in 250 words or less, plus a personal statement in 250 words or less, provide their work experience and two letters of recommendation.
EVENING STREET ELEMENTARY PTA SCHOLARSHIP

The Evening Street Elementary School Scholarship Fund is providing two, $1000 scholarships for deserving students who have attended Evening Street Elementary School (minimum of grades 2-6) and who are pursuing post-secondary education at a college, university or junior college. Scholarships will be sent directly to the attending college in September. Application plus an essay are required.
FCBANK SCHOLARSHIP

FCBank is committed to the communities and businesses it serves, and is a proud supporter of the next generation of business leaders. They invite eligible students to enhance their education by participating in their annual scholarship contest. Funding is available for up to 5 scholarships, $1,000 each, to be used for seniors who are furthering their education at a college or university with a business-related degree.
THE GARY SMITH HEART & HURDLE AWARD
In 1973, Gary Smith started the Occupational Work Adjustment program at Worthington High School. This scholarship honors Gary Smith’s dedication to his students who were “non-traditional.” The scholarship is designed for applicants who have overcome personal and/or academic hurdles and are planning to attend a career/technical program, college or community college, or for the student who is advancing into skilled employment. Up to $1,000 will be awarded. This scholarship will be funded from proceeds of the Gary Smith Worthington Classic.
GARY SMITH WORTHINGTON CLASSIC SCHOLARSHIP
Funded from proceeds of the Gary Smith Worthington Classic, these scholarships are designed to honor Gary Smith, a compassionate teacher and track and cross country coach at Worthington/Thomas Worthington High School. $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to each of two TWHS seniors who have been members of the varsity girls or boys TWHS track or cross country teams for at least two years, have at least a 3.0 grade point average, have demonstrated teamwork, leadership and contribution to team, peers, and community. In addition, this applicant should be able to explain a personal understanding of
Mr. Smith’s philosophy on running and life: “Run as hard as you can...then let your heart take you the rest of the way.”
GUSSSTRONG SCHOLARSHIP
The GussStrong Award is presented annually to a TWHS student-athlete. This award was established to honor former TWHS baseball coach and teacher Stephen Gussler. This award is a one-time scholarship in the amount of $1,500, funded by the GussStrong Foundation. Coach Gussler had an outstanding career as both a health teacher and as a baseball coach. In the classroom and on the field, his mission remained the same; to inspire students to believe in themselves and to never give up. In order to be considered for the award, please submit an essay on the impact sports has had on your life and what being GussStrong means to you.
HUTTA ORTHODONTIC SPECIALISTS SCHOLARSHIP
A one-time $1500 scholarship will be awarded to a student from Thomas Worthington High School who will be attending The Ohio State University. This scholarship is given by Dr. Hutta as a memorial to be announced annually. This scholarship is not to be awarded to an applicant who has received a combined total of $2,000 or more in other local or corporate scholarships.
JOE HART MEMORIAL- GREATER WORTHINGTON AREA REAL ESTATE ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship up to $1000 will be awarded to a deserving senior who plans to further his/her education by attending a college, technical school or trade school. In addition to the application, selection will be based on an essay entitled, “Why Worthington is a Great Place to Live,” financial need, and motivation.
KIWANIS CLUB OF NORTHERN COLUMBUS SCHOLARSHIP
The Kiwanis Club of Northern Columbus will award three, $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from one of the local area (Beechwold, Clintonville, Worthington) high schools. Students who will be attending a four-year or two-year college or university beginning in the summer or fall of 2023, will be considered for a scholarship. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of merit (grades, courses taken, academic societies, etc.), financial need (FAFSA), volunteer activities, extracurricular activities, leadership and service.
LT. CLINTON L. NICELY MEMORIAL FUND SCHOLARSHIP
NOMINATIONS WILL BE MADE BY BASEBALL COACH
Established in memory of Clint Nicely, an outstanding student-athlete at Worthington High School, this fund provides a $500 annual scholarship for a student-athlete from his alma mater. Student athletes who have contributed on the high school baseball team, who rank in the top half of their class academically, who are enrolling in a college or university following graduation, and who are overall assets to the area Worthington High School serves.
MATTHEW G MINER SCHOLARSHIP
APPLY HERE – Application Due March 1, 2022
$4000 scholarship to one TWHS senior who will attend a college or university in fall 2022. Candidates must be in the top 20% of their graduating class. Preference will be given to candidates who are the first family member to attend college.
MOOG GROUP WITH KELLER WILLIAMS CAPITAL PARTNERS SCHOLARSHIP
$1,000 scholarship available to a Thomas Worthington senior based on their demonstration of
determination, ambition and work ethic. Students must submit a completed application
which includes: their transcript, resume, one letter of recommendation (not a teacher) and responses to two short answer questions. All applicants will be considered equally.
THE NATE MARBURGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This $1,200 scholarship is being offered to honor Nate Marburger, a 2009 Thomas Worthington graduate, who was planning to attend the University of Toledo in the College of Civil Engineering in the fall. Nate was a lettered four-year soccer player and scholar athlete who showed leadership skills in school activities and community service. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior pursuing a career in engineering who shows good character and leadership in school activities and community service.
NEW ENGLAND MASONIC LODGE #4 SCHOLARSHIP
New England Lodge #4 (F&AM) is offering a $1,500 scholarship. New England Lodge was founded by James Kilbourne in 1803 and has been active in Worthington for the past 219 years. The lodge seeks to promote and teach values such as civic virtue to its members.
OLIVIA MIDNIGHT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

A $500 to $2000 scholarship in loving memory of TWHS student Olivia Midnight. Applicants must have completed a minimum three (3) semesters of visual fine art classes, write an essay, provide a resume and transcript, along with two letters of recommendation. Applicants may submit a picture of a piece of artwork that demonstrates their passion and purpose. Students may be college bound, or participating in an alternate post-graduation pathway.
PHOENIX MIDDLE SCHOOL ALUMNI PTSA SCHOLARSHIP

The Phoenix Middle School PTSA will be awarding one $500 scholarship to a Thomas Worthington High
School graduating senior. To be considered you need to have completed eighth grade at Phoenix Middle
School and write two essays. One essay describes your intended program/field of study (300 word max) and the other describes how you demonstrate the values and expectations of Phoenix (500 word max).
RITA MEROLA SCHOLARSHIP
The Rita Merola Scholarship is a $1,025 scholarship intended for a female graduating student who has been accepted and is planning to attend a state university or community college in Ohio. Students attending out of Ohio and private colleges will not be considered. Minimum GPA is a 3.0. Financial need and participation in extracurricular activities will be important considerations.
THE RON RAMEY BOYS BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP
This $1,500 scholarship was established to honor former TWHS basketball parent Ron Ramey who passed away suddenly in the spring of 2022. Ron was the parent of a TW Basketball alum, an important member of the basketball booster group and was always the biggest supporter of our student-athletes up until his passing. This award is funded by the GussStrong Foundation. In order to be considered for the award, you must be a senior boys basketball student-athlete. Please submit an essay on the impact of being part of the boys basketball program has had on your life, and how that will benefit you as you become an adult. Your essay should be at least 3 paragraphs long and no more than 2 pages. Please use double space and size 12 font.
SARAH ELIZABETH FORSTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in memory of Sarah Forster, a student from Thomas Worthington High School who traveled to Latin America as an exchange student. The award is given to encourage other TWHS students to experience a Spanish-speaking culture through study or providing service. The recipient must have a 3.25 GPA in Spanish, completed two years of high school Spanish courses, and write an essay explaining why he/she wants to travel to a Spanish-speaking country.
SLATE HILL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
Slate Hill Elementary PTA is proud to offer one scholarship in the amount of $500 to an Alumni of Slate Hill Elementary. This applicant must be planning to attend college or technical school in the fall following high school graduation. Applicants must submit an essay, not exceeding 500 words, explaining how Worthington Schools and Slate Hill have played a role in developing skills needed to succeed in their future endeavors. Explanation and demonstration of community involvement are also required (i.e. volunteer experience, camp counselor, tutoring, etc.). Essay, resume and Slate Hill application required.
SENIOR ART AWARD
NO APPLICATION
One scholarship will be provided to the senior art show winner whose piece is voted on during Cardinal Day. The artist’s work will then be on display in the Thomas Worthington library and recognized.
THERON AND LUCILLA WRIGHT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Two, $1000 scholarships are awarded annually in memory of Theron and Lucilla Wright. Selections will be based on scholastic achievement, athletic participation/interest, and financial need. Applicants will be required to submit copies of their FAFSA SAR or the family’s last two federal income tax returns to verify financial need.
TWHS PTSO CAREER SCHOLARSHIP
The TWHS PTSO will be awarding up to six $500 scholarships to senior students who plan to further their education beyond high school. The recipients will be selected on the basis of leadership, character and a personal narrative, with an emphasis on school and community service.
TWHS STUDENT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP
Thomas Worthington Student Council will award at least two $500 scholarships to students who have participated on student council. Applicants must be attending an institute of higher education (two year or four year) and have been a member of Student Council for at least 2 years during their time at TWHS. Student’s financial need and overall contribution and effort to student council will be considered. Applicants must be exemplary role models of outstanding character who are respected by both students and staff. Students’ participation in, and leadership of, student council sponsored events will be considered.
TWHS TOUCHDOWN CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
The Thomas Worthington High School Touchdown Club is offering five $500 scholarships to football players from the Class of 2022. Applicants will need to demonstrate athletic participation, other school and community activities along with submitting an essay as to the reasons why the applicant should be awarded one of the TWHS Touchdown Club Scholarships. Applicants will need to complete the essay only (not the General Application). Please do not include additional materials such as resume, letter(s) of recommendation, transcripts, etc.
WILLIAM GALVIN SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP
This $2000 scholarship will be awarded to a top high school senior student who wishes to further their education in Science at a collegiate level. GPA will be considered.
WILSON HILL ELEMENTARY PTO SECONDARY SCHOOL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
The Wilson Hill PTO is providing two $500 secondary education scholarships. Applicants must have attended Wilson Hill Elementary, full-time, from a minimum of 2nd grade through the completion of 6th grade, and be a full-time graduating senior in good standing of either TWHS or WKHS. Students will need to complete the online application and write an essay of between 500 and 1,000 words describing how their years at Wilson Hill prepared them for life in Worthington schools and beyond.
WORTHINGTON ALLIANCE OF BLACK FAMILIES AND EDUCATORS
The Worthington Alliance of Black Families and Educators (WABFE) scholarship will award one $500 scholarship to a Black student currently enrolled in Worthington City Schools. Applicants will need to be in good academic standing and demonstrate intent to enter a two or four year college program, formal technical or vocational training and/or military. The scholarship is intended to be used by the student for tuition and/or related expenses.
WORTHINGTON AREA ART LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIP
NO APPLICATION
This scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing an art related career. This student must have demonstrated commitment and passion to the art department while attending Thomas Worthington High School. Though appreciated, applicants do not have to be majoring in fine arts in college, or going to an art academy. A financial award will be presented at the senior recognition ceremony.
WORTHINGTON EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Worthington Education Association is once again offering two $1,000 scholarships to deserving seniors. Any senior dependent of a WEA member attending school in another district is eligible to apply.
WORTHINGTON EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Four scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded to students pursuing a post-high school program for the purpose of furthering their education beyond high school. The applicant's parent must be a member of the Worthington Educational Support Professionals Association, and financial need is considered. Applications will be judged on neatness and readability, as well as content and grade point average.
WORTHINGTON MEN’S ALUMNI LACROSSE ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
NO APPLICATION - Selection made by the Alumni Board of WALA
Up to two $1000 scholarships will be awarded to senior lacrosse players from Thomas Worthington High School. The recipient(s) must have demonstrated leadership on the lacrosse field and in the classroom. To be eligible, the student-athlete must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA and confirmation of enrolling in an institute of higher education.
WORTHINGTON WOMEN’S LACROSSE ALUMNAE SCHOLARSHIP
APPLICATION DISTRIBUTED BY LACROSSE COACH
The Alumnae Scholarship is awarded in memory of a former Worthington lacrosse player, Laura Lambert (Class of 1988). This college scholarship is awarded annually to a senior female lacrosse player from Thomas Worthington High School who possesses traits similar to Laura’s. Scholarship applications are presented to all senior lacrosse players during the spring season. The recipient must have achieved a 2.5 GPA, played at least two seasons of lacrosse, demonstrated leadership, and possessed a true love for lacrosse. This award is granted by the officers of the Worthington Women’s Lacrosse Alumnae Association.
WORTHINGTON PTA COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP
Up to six $500 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors from any Worthington high school (Linworth, TWHS, Worthington Academy, or WKHS), for post-high school education or training. These scholarships will be awarded to the applicants who best demonstrate a commitment to helping others by participating in activities that promote values such as: volunteerism, initiative, inclusion, durability/ legacy, and role model. GPA will not be considered.
