School Nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development: promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and learning.

School Nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing, and presents a unique set of challenges. School Nurses:
Are licensed by the State of Ohio Board of Nursing to practice as a registered nurse Possess a baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university. Are licensed as a Certified School Nurse through the Ohio Department of Education. Adhere to laws and rules of the Ohio Board of Nursing and the professional standards of the State and National Association of School Nurses. The school nurse serves as an advocate for the school-age child, works collaboratively with the school health team to facilitate and strengthen the educational process, and identifies and removes barriers to learning. The philosophy and practice of district nurses and school health teams is directly aligned with both the philosophy of the Board of Education, as well as the mission and beliefs of Worthington Schools.
