Student Data Privacy
In Worthington Schools, we are committed to providing a rich, engaging educational experience for every student. To support instruction and streamline operations, we use a variety of online platforms and digital tools in our classrooms. These resources allow students to collaborate, create, and learn in dynamic and meaningful ways.
With the passage of Ohio Senate Bill 29, also known as the Student Data Privacy Act, new requirements have been established for how school districts engage with technology providers. SB 29 is designed to strengthen protections for student education records, require increased transparency for families, and limit how student data can be used by outside companies.
As part of these new requirements, districts must provide notification about technology providers used in instruction, particularly if those providers have not signed the Ohio Student Data Privacy Agreement. While Worthington Schools has carefully vetted all providers we use, some companies have chosen not to sign the state-level agreement.
That said, each of these companies has its own data privacy agreement in place. These agreements outline how student information is protected, used, and stored. Worthington Schools will be using the following tools that are critical to core operations and/or instruction:
- Adobe
- Google Translate
- Tinkercad
- Cengage
You can access all privacy policies on the list of all approved tools HERE or in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
Please know that we continue to prioritize student safety, privacy, and learning in every decision we make. If you have questions about SB 29 or any of the digital tools used in your child’s classroom, please feel free to contact your building principal.
Thank you for your partnership.
