CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER

Jennifer Wene will retire this year from the position of Chief Academic Officer. In her career, she has served in a half-dozen positions throughout the district.

Jennifer started as the Director of Special Education, served as interim Assistant Superintendent before becoming principal of Slate Hill Elementary.

She says opening Slate Hill was one of her proudest moments in the district. Jennifer was thrilled that a few years later it was named a National Blue Ribbon School.

As an administrator in multiple roles at Worthington Education Center, Jennifer started Project More. She says that is another accomplishment that makes her very proud. Project More now serves nine schools in the district and links the schools to the community. Around 200 kids get to read with more than 600 mentors thanks to Project More.

Jennifer says although she’s retiring, she’ll remain an active volunteer in the schools. She’s also planning to be an advocate for public education in the political world.

She adds that she appreciates all the opportunities she’s had, and feels she’s a better educator thanks to her time with Worthington.
