Pre-Apprenticeship Programs

The Worthington Enterprises workforce experience program is a shortened pre-apprenticeship program designed to accelerate students into the workforce post-graduation. Worthington Enterprises has two locations: Worthington and Westerville. The program outlined below is specifically for the Worthington location, as the Westerville site is not hiring at this time. If you are interested in touring the facility, please contact your school counselor ASAP!

2024-2025 Program Timeline

• November 19th, 2024: Interested students tour Columbus Cylinders Facility

• December 10th 2024: Facility tour, interview & Parents Night - Full-time offers given to students 

• January – February 2025: Check-in's with Worthington Enterprises

• March – April 2025: Certified Manufacturing Associate Certification Classes onsite at Worthington Enterprises HQ 3 days a week for a few hours

• May 2025: Transition to Worthington Enterprises Employee and begin on the job training post HS graduation

The Worthington Steel workforce experience is a 14 week pre-apprenticeship program designed to give interested seniors the opportunity to discover careers in the manufacturing industry. Here is a link to their flier to learn more! 

Worthington Steel will be hosting a Real Job Preview (RJP) on Tuesday, November 12, which will include a tour for interested students and their parents. Interested students need to apply by November 4th to be accepted for the RJP and interviews on November 12th.

Students will receive elective credit and industry recognized credentials for participating in this program. Below is a broad timeline that the program follows. See your school counselor for more information!

Performance Columbus offers an Automotive Maintenance Pre-Apprenticeship Program (AMPP) at their Drive Direct location on Morse Rd. Interested students must be 17 years old. Students will work 5 days a week for 2 hours a day, learning the following:

• Tools: lifts, engine cranes, etc.
• Brake service and repair
• Engine and transmission repair
• Vehicle maintenance and inspection
• Steering, suspension and wheel alignment
• Tire sales and service
• Heating and AC repair
• Vehicle diagnostic systems
• Electrical work and technology
• Critical thinking and soft skills
• Company character and culture
• ...and more!

If students are hired through the AMPP program, they transition to the Hire60 program for 3 months of additional training/support. Students will receive elective credit and industry recognized credentials for participating in this program.

IEC Central Ohio

We are planning to have an electrician pre-apprenticeship for seniors starting Winter 2025.

• Students would complete a 145-200 hour pre-apprenticeship at the IEC training center, 3128 E. 17th Ave, Columbus 43219. 
   
• The pre-apprenticeship would be offered as a half-day program.
   
• Students will have to transport themselves to and from IEC.
   
• Students who complete the pre-apprenticeship would earn a 12-point industry-recognized credential, as well as the Ohio Means Jobs seal.
   
• We hope to offer the pre-apprenticeship to 2-4 seniors.  If we have greater interest, we may have to create a process to select students
