Kindergarten
Kindergarten registration for the 2026-2027 school year is now open.
Important Kindergarten Age Requirement Update
The State of Ohio has updated the age requirements for kindergarten through amended House Bill 114, which revised Ohio law. Under this new law, children must be five years old by the first day of school in order to start kindergarten.
For Worthington City Schools, this means your child must turn five (5) years old on or before August 21, 2026, to be eligible to begin kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year.
For more information regarding the enrollment process, please review the Kindergarten Frequently Asked Questions on the righthand side of this page or find links to additional topics on the enrollment page.
Worthington Schools now offers universal, no-cost, all-day kindergarten - which means a lottery for all-day kindergarten is no longer needed. Every child in our district has access to a full-day of high-quality kindergarten education at no expense to families.
The Worthington Board of Education approved the transition to an all-day kindergarten model across all elementary schools. By moving away from our previous tuition-based system, we eliminated barriers to access and providing equitable opportunities for all students to benefit from an all-day program.
All-day kindergarten offers significant advantages for young learners. With increased instructional time, students can develop stronger foundational skills in core content areas like literacy and math, while also engaging in enriching activities that build social and emotional skills. The extended schedule allows time for individualized support, intervention, and purposeful play, both in the classroom and on the playground.
At Worthington Schools, we are committed to educating the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. By providing a well-rounded experience, all-day kindergarten ensures students are better prepared for lifelong success.
